Market and the famous XQ embroidery workshop where you can find exquisite
handicraft souvenirs and come into close contact with the people in their daily
routines. A pedicab ride is recommended to roam around the lively commercial
streets of Chinatown. The tour should also
bring you to historical places like the Jade Emperor Pagoda and the Reunification Palace.
Outside Ho Chi Minh
City
The town of My Tho lies on
the left side of the Mekong River and is about a two hour drive from the hustle
and bustle of Ho Chi Minh City.
Visitors can enjoy a cruise on the Mekong
River and also catch a
ride on a hand rowed sampan through the many small rivers and islets. The route
will be covered with green canopy of trees and water coconut. Catch a glimpse
of the daily activities of the local people. A visit to an orchard islet, is a
must - and observe the pastoral life of the simple folks. Stop by a drink stall
to enjoy a refreshing coconut drink, or taste local seasonal fruits, or have
lunch at a country restaurant to sample country delicacies and honey tea.
Further into the Mekong Delta will bring you to Vinh Long.
It is some 130 km from Ho Chi Minh
City. Vinh Long occupies a core area in the Mekong
Delta. Here you can take a boat ride to the Cai Be floating market, which is a
must. Here local traders bargain and exchange goods from their boats. After Cai
Be, going to Binh Hoa Phuoc Islet is nearby. Here, a simple boat ride into the
maze of shady creeks will surely fascinate you. You will be able to mingle with
the local peasants, learn the secret of their bonsai plants, or just see what
life is like here. Local produce are
plentiful. You should be able to find something to your liking.
